The Foundation, part of the Jewish Community Foundation Los Angeles, recently hosted a special evening honoring The Jewish Community Foundation’s Recent Cutting Edge Grant recipients and Rabbi Sharon Brous of IKAR, who received the Inspired Leadership Award. The award recognizes an outstanding professional leader whose vision is “transforming the Los Angeles Jewish community.”

The Society of Singers recently honored Natalie Cole with the 19th Elle Award, named for its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald in 1989. ELLA honorees are carefully chosen for their contribution to the music world and for their dedicated efforts to benefit the community and worldwide humanitarian causes. Guests mingled while enjoying cocktails, an auction, and a show. More >
The Colleagues, a women’s group that raises funds to benefit anti-abuse organization Children’s Institute Inc., recently hosted its 22nd annual spring luncheon. Oscar De la Renta received this year’s Champion of Children award at the event, while Diane Lane was the guest presenter. The luncheon program included a fashion show of the designer’s fall 2010 collection as well as a performance by the children in the Children’s Institute’s performing arts program. More >

The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts celebrated its past and present recently in a high-profile event in honor of its 25th anniversary. Headlined by Barry Manilow, other stars making presentations included Marilyn Horne, Frank Gehry and John Williams. The evening’s honorees included Ginny Mancini, widow of the late film composer, whose friendship with philanthropist Caroline Ahmanson lead her to the specialized high school in 1994, when the school benefited from a 70th birthday tribute for Henry Mancini. The Helping Hand of Los Angeles celebrated their 81st anniversary with a luncheon, fashion show and boutique honoring their “mother of the year” Annette Bening. There was also a “farewell” to Dr. Ricardo and Cindy Azziz. Through the years Helping Hand has raised more than $21 million for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to further research and raise awareness for women’s and babies’ healthcare issues. More >
40th Annual Beastly Ball
Attendees recently gathered at the Los Angeles Zoo for the 40th Annual Beastly Ball, presented by the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), which for more than four decades has successfully supported the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens as an international leader in the preservation of endangered species and a conservation center for the care and study of wildlife.
Sir Elton John, Jane Goodall, Jay Leno, Sandra Bullock, Alex Trebek, Michael Feinstein and Jamie Lee Curtis were among the co-chairs honoring long-time supporter Betty White. NCIS star Pauley Perrette served as the evening’s MC.
